In marine maintenance, there are situations that no catalogue can prepare you for. That's exactly the kind of challenge one of our clients in marine logistics brought to us.
The Challenge
A hydraulic cylinder from a Boom Conveyor system — part of cargo conveyor system 325.001.013 on board a vessel. Equipment manufactured by MacGregor — one of the world's leading marine cargo handling manufacturers. A well-known manufacturer, standard equipment — the original repair kit should have solved it. But not this time.
What Made It Difficult
The cylinder had previously been serviced by a third-party repair company. During that repair, the unit was modified — the internal design was altered. From the outside, the cylinder looked standard. But the internal geometry no longer matched the original MacGregor specification. The result: the original repair kit simply did not fit. Neither in dimensions nor in seating geometry. For a Technical Superintendent, this is a familiar nightmare — the vessel is waiting, the parts don't fit, and the OEM is not helpful.
How We Solved It
Our team performed detailed measurements of all seating surfaces and working areas of the cylinder. Based on the actual dimensions, we selected and manufactured a complete seal kit — accounting for the modified geometry, working pressure, and marine exposure conditions. Every sealing element was produced specifically for this cylinder. Not from a catalogue. From real measurements.
The Result
The repair kit was delivered on time. The cylinder was restored and returned to operation.
What This Means for You
If your marine hydraulic equipment has been previously repaired or modified — the original spare parts may no longer fit. The geometry may have changed. And that's not a problem — if you have a partner who works from real parameters, not catalogues.
That's exactly what we do.
